It’s okay to not be okay....

Sometimes you just get tired and feel like doing nothing. Everything seems exhausting, and you have no motivation or energy to do anything. Most of us think of how to be productive when we are feeling unmotivated. But the truth is, when we are in this low state, what we can do is the opposite of being productive. We have to slow down, be gentle with ourselves, and allow ourselves to heal. Don’t even try to get your life together. Just allow yourself to be.

If you’re feeling this way, it’s most likely you have high expectations for yourself, and you’re frustrated because you haven’t been able to show up the way you wanted. Or maybe others have high expectations of you, whether it’s your parents or the people around you. Or might be you’ve been pushing yourself too hard and just burning yourself out. We may feel this way because we have expectations for what our life should look like, and when it all gets turned down, we don’t know how to handle it.

Surrender is a keyword here.

We have to release our feeling of control, release our expectations of ourselves, and accept ourselves as we are right now. It can be difficult and easy at the same time. It can be hard to surrender, but on the other hand, it’s easy because all you have to do is let go. There’s no action needed, just inaction.

Let yourself rest.

We have to remove any pressure to do anything. Stop putting any expectations on yourself and just exist. You have to let your body and mind rest and recuperate as it may probably feel burnt out or depleted. Let your body balance and heal itself.

Love Yourself.

No matter what, be kind and gentle with yourself. Practice unconditional love, which means giving yourself love regardless of anything. Love is accepting, so accept as you are right now. Don’t force anything, and practice self-forgiveness if you’ve been hard on yourself. Wherever you are right now is Okay.

Shift your focus.

We feel low because we’ve been focusing on the wrong or difficult things. When we focus on what is hard, we feel like giving up because it’s such a struggle. But when we focus on what is easy, it makes it easier to get through the tough time. So, instead of focusing on what is hard, try focusing on what is easy.

Talk to someone.

If you feel you need help to revive yourself, talk to someone you trust. You may be hesitant to share your thoughts or may not, but talking to someone makes you feel better.

Connect with nature.

Nature heals a person on a spiritual level. Here, our sense of peace can be revived. It need not always be a major trip. Just take a walk outside, go to a nearby park, maybe go to the beach or mountains, or even your local nursery. The energy of plants and flowers can be so healing.

Understand that life happens in cycles.

Change is the only constant. Have you ever heard of the saying “this too shall pass”? Whatever you’re going through, know that it will pass. Your situation and feelings will change. Learn to embrace the cycles and seasons of your life.

It's okay to do nothing when you feel like doing nothing (unmotivated, burnt out, unproductive). It's okay to be gentle with yourself. It's okay to give yourself space and to heal. It's okay to not be okay.
