Shark Tank India: Dawn of Startups

The globally famous show goes to form its debut on Indian television. Shark Tank India is an Indian Hindi-language business reality television series produced by Studio NEXT that airs on SET India. The show is the Indian version of the American show, Shark Tank. It shows entrepreneurs making business presentations to a panel of investors or sharks, who decide whether to take a position in their company. The host of the show is Roadies fame Rannvijay Singha and the primary season of Shark Tank India premiered on 20 December 2021 and concluded on 4 February 2022.

The show received 62,000 applications, out of which 198 businesses were selected to pitch their ideas to the “sharks”. Out of 198 investment pitches at the show, 67 businesses got deals this season.

The famous sharks that are going to invest in wholesome business ideas are

1. Ashneer Grover, MD & Co-founder of BharatPe

Ashneer Grover has invested in many Indian companies like India Gold, the entire Truth, OTO Capital, and Front Row. In Shark Tank India, he has invested Rs 3.96 crore in 15 deals so far.

2. Ghazal Alagh - Co-founder & Chief Mama  Mamaearth

Ghazal Alagh co-founded Mamaearth in 2016 with Varun Alagh and has done a Bachelors in Information Technology and Intensive Courses in Modern Art, Design, and Applied Arts from the NY Academy of Arts. In Shark Tank India, she has invested Rs 0.4 crore in 2 deals so far.

3. Vineeta Singh, CEO & Co-founder of SUGAR Cosmetics

Vineeta Singh is one of the Sharks of the Indian reality show, Shark Tank India. Vineeta completed her graduation from IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad. In Shark Tank India, she has invested around Rs 1.52 crore in 6 deals so far.

4. Peeyush Bansal, founder & CEO of Lenskart.com

Peyush Bansal is India's one of the most successful entrepreneurs. He has invested in inFeedo and dailyobjects.com. In Shark Tank India, he has invested Rs 4.19 crore in 16 deals including Jugaadu Kamlesh's pesticide trolley spray.

5. Aman Gupta - Co-Founder & Chief Marketing Officer at boAt

Aman Gupta has invested in many companies including FREECULTR, Bummer, Skippi Ice Pops, Shiprocket, WickedGud, Anveshan, and 10club. In Shark Tank India, Aman has invested Rs 6.69 Crore in 23 deals so far.

6. Namita Thapar - Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals

One of the successful women entrepreneurs in India, Namita Thapar has been related to different companies within the USA since 2001, like GlaxoSmithKline, Guidant Corporation in various roles of finance and marketing. In Shark Tank, she has invested Rs 4.48 crore in 15 deals so far.

7. Anupam Mittal - Founder and CEO of Shaadi.com - People Group

Shadi.com is one of the successful concepts by Anupam Mittal. Anupam is sort of a lively investor as he has already funded ElectricPe, CashBook, and Lyst. In Shark Tank India, he has invested Rs 3.71 crore in 16 deals so far.

Shark Tank India has started conversations based on entrepreneurship in every household in India and it could be a show that will provide opportunities to the new entrepreneurs. In the first season of Shark Tank India, seven business tycoons committed funds worth Rs 41.68 crore to 67 budding businesses.
